This is a simple black & white portrait of a lady wearing a hat. The subject and the background are lit in opposite ways: the first is illuminated by a light source placed on the right side of the photo, while the latter by a light source placed on the left. Therefore, the illuminated side if the subject is in strong contract with the dark background on the right, whereas the dark features of the subject are also in contract with the lighter ton of the background on the left, which is an interesting technique to allow a subject stand out in a beautiful fashion.
