Trump

In 2019 I travelled with Bangarra Dance Theatre on their North American tour. Bangarra is one of Australia's leading Indigenous performing arts companies, sharing their culture with audiences across Australia and the world. As the official tour photographer I embarked on a personal project of photographing the dancers in the streets of the cities we visited; despite being in costume and moving with the precision that is the language of their art, the dancers are not in character. Having been removed from their controlled, interior environment and placing them in the urban streets of Chicago, the dancers stylised form juxtaposed with the everyday reality of city living creates a powerful take on the traditional dance portrait. With the Trump building as our backdrop, we celebrated the beauty of culture, spirit, storytelling and art.
