When I visited Lisbon for the first time in 2018, I was interested in the city's center and ended up in Alfama. As I walked through its maze of steep, cobblestoned streets and narrow alleyways, I was immediately drawn in by the city's many textures. The worn walls decorated with azulejos, the laundry swishing in the wind, and the flower-filled balconies. Alfama's natural structure, which hasn't been changed by modern planning, speaks to a different rhythm that makes you want to take your time and enjoy the experience. This picture was taken from a high place in the soft morning light, when the city's roofs start to glow in warm brown tones and everything seems to stop for a moment. I tried to make a composition that showed both how busy the city is and how close-knit Alfama is. This picture shows more than just a pretty scene; it shows a place's soul. It shows how well lived-in beauty and building history can work together, as well as the feeling of continuity that lingers in the air of Alfama.
