Copperlight is a study of connection—between human and horse, body and landscape, strength and softness—shaped by the low, burnished light of day’s end. I created this series at the edge of a grass-covered dune system, where the sun drops slowly and everything it touches turns warm and elemental. Skin, coat, and earth share the same copper tones, blurring the boundaries between subject and setting. The rider and her horse are totally in sync These images center on moments of pause: a hand resting against a horse’s face, a shared gaze into the distance, the subtle lean of one body toward another. The horse is powerful and grounded, yet calm and receptive. The rider mirrors that presence—bare, unguarded, and attentive. Virtually no direction was given; the interaction is unforced, built on trust and familiarity. I chose to let gesture and light tell the story. The open landscape provides space to breathe, while the long shadows and warm highlights sculpt form and texture. This series reflects my ongoing exploration of equine relationships beyond sport or spectacle. I’m interested in how quiet companionship can communicate just as powerfully as motion, and how horses invite us into a slower, more attentive way of being. In these frames, the horse is not an accessory or symbol, but an equal presence—alert, aware, and emotionally engaged. Copperlight asks the viewer to slow down and notice what happens when two beings stand together without urgency. It is about warmth without excess, strength without dominance, and the shared calm that emerges when trust is allowed to lead.
